Dermaplaning Post-Treatment Instructions for Best Results

Dermaplaning Post-Treatment Instructions for Best Results

Dermaplaning can leave your skin smoother, softer, and glowing, but taking care of your skin post-treatment is key to maximizing results and protecting the fresh, delicate layer revealed. Here are some essential post-treatment instructions to ensure your skin stays healthy and radiant after dermaplaning.

1. Avoid Sun Exposure

Your skin is more sensitive to the sun after dermaplaning. Avoid direct sun exposure for 24-48 hours post-treatment. When you do go outside, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and wear a hat for extra protection. This will help prevent any sunburn or hyperpigmentation on your fresh skin.

2. Moisturize Regularly

Dermaplaning can leave your skin feeling drier than usual, so it’s important to keep it hydrated. Use a gentle, hydrating moisturizer to lock in moisture and soothe your skin. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides that help retain moisture without irritation.

3. Skip Makeup for 24 Hours

Allow your skin to breathe after dermaplaning by going makeup-free for at least 24 hours. This prevents any irritation or clogging of the newly exfoliated skin. After a day, you can apply makeup, but remember that a smooth, exfoliated surface will help it go on more effortlessly!

4. Avoid Harsh Skincare Products

For 3-5 days post-treatment, avoid products with active ingredients like retinol, AHAs, BHAs, and Vitamin C, as these can irritate your newly exposed skin. Stick to gentle, hydrating products to allow your skin to heal and avoid any potential for redness or discomfort.

5. Refrain from Heat and Sweating

Avoid activities that cause sweating, such as exercising, hot yoga, and saunas, for the first 24 hours. Excessive heat can lead to irritation and even increase the risk of breakouts on the freshly treated skin.

6. Stay Hands-Free

Avoid touching your face post-treatment. Your skin is especially sensitive, and touching it can transfer dirt and oils from your hands, potentially leading to breakouts or irritation. Keep your hands off, and let your skin recover.

7. Cleanse Gently

When cleansing, use a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser and lukewarm water. Avoid scrubbing or using a washcloth; simply cleanse with your hands to prevent irritation. Pat your skin dry with a soft, clean towel after washing.

  1. Botox, Fillers, & Tanning

Avoid dermal fillers or Botox near the treatment area. Contiune to aoid sun exposure, as well as tanning beds and self tanning products. Active tanning (natural or artificial) may result in hypopigmentation (white spots) or hyperpigmentation (dark spots) that may not clear for several months or may even be permanent.

9. Book Regular Treatments Mindfully

While dermaplaning is safe to repeat, give your skin time to regenerate between treatments. Aim for dermaplaning once every 4-6 weeks to allow enough time for your skin to heal and for dead skin cells to build up naturally again.
